Locally produced milk – the essential ingredient

Crediton Dairy

Our Farmers

Devon is of course synonymous with dairy farming, and we’re fortunate enough to be based in the heart of the county.

To ensure we have a sustainable and fully traceable supply of high quality Farm Assured milk we believe in working closely with and supporting family-run farms that are local to our dairy. All of our supplying dairy farms are located within a 30-mile radius of the dairy and we are proud of the fact that we know all of our farmers personally. Indeed, we will often visit them on farm and have an in-depth knowledge of their farms and how they look after their cows.

We believe that we have a strong offer for dairy farmers. First and foremost, we recognise that we must pay a competitive and sustainable price for the milk they produce. However, this price needs to be attainable. The best way to achieve both of these is to build long term relationships. To demonstrate our commitment to this, our milk price schedule and contractual requirements are simple, clear and transparent.

Accreditation Standards

Our dedicated group of local dairy farmers are committed to supplying us with high quality milk and in doing so they, and we, put significant emphasis on ensuring the health and welfare of their cows.

All of our supplying farmers are fully accredited to the Red Tractor Assurance for Farms – Dairy Scheme. This means that they must meet rigorous on-farm standards and pass regular independent assessment to ensure they meet the highest standards.

In addition to this, all our farmers supply data to the Crediton FarmMetrics programme on a quarterly basis. This measures various health and welfare parameters such as lameness and mortality and enables us to track improvements over time.
